This is a wonderful 50s era “box” purse made by the Elsa Manufacturing Company of St. Louis, Missouri. The purse features a molded acetate ribbed body - acetate is a natural polymer processed from trees and cotton, cellulose based, less brittle than lucite, so a little easier to manipulate. The body has a faux tortoiseshell appearance while the lid is semi-transparent in an amber color. The lid is eight sided and features an impressed floral design. The lid closes with a “presto” latch. The body of the purse measures 5” by 7” at the base with a height of 5 1/2”, exclusive of the applied handles - the handles have a “fall” (height) of about 5”. The purse is in very good condition - a few light scratches on the backside from body contact, very minor, and more pronounced in the photos than in actual life. This is a wonderful 50s era purse - beautiful luminous look and shape, sure to be noticed!
