Tim Soutar Wooden Functional and Decorative Bowls Tim draws his inspiration from coastal, marine, geometric patterns and by simply walking along a beach. Led by instinct he creates turnings that have wonderful shape, form, texture and patterns. He has created functional items such as bowls but he also has been inspired to create purely artistic and decorative pieces that have surface decoration, texturing and embellishments. All of Tim's turnings have a wonderful finish and feel in your hand. Tim, works mostly with local woods like Maple, Arbutus and fruit trees. He loves burls, and other woods with extravagant grain patterns. The use of green wood and allowing it to warp as it dries is often used in many of his turned pieces. The challenge of creating, the possibilities of shape and techniques, the meeting of other artists and meeting new people
