How to use: (or watch this video) Note: Before smoothing a nib always check the tine alignment to make sure one tine is not higher or lower than the other. Tine misalignment is the most common reason for a scratchy nib and smoothing won't help. In case your tines are misaligned it is usually possible to bend them back into alignment. 1) Wet the micro-mesh sheet or fill your pen with ink. Micro-mesh is most effective when wet though can also be used dry. 2) Draw 2-3 figure eights on the micro-mesh using fairly light pressure and then test the nib on paper. You may find a certain direction that is scratchier than others. In this case give more attention to that direction on the micro-mesh. Go back and forth between micro-mesh and paper constantly testing for smoothness. 3) Repeat the above until you have reached the desired smoothness. Nib smoothing does take some practice and it is possible to damage a nib if done improperly. It is a good idea to rotate the pen just a bit while making the figure eight pattern to avoid grinding a flat spot onto the round ball tipping of the nib. Note that nib smoothing will likely void a pen's warranty.
