This is a wonderful 1930s era slinky under shirt or slip made in Canada by Watson’s. Striped under garments of this type was introduced circa 1936. Watson’s was a Brantford, Ontario manufacturer that was acquired by Penman’s of Paris, Ontario, probably early in the 20th century. I haven’t been able to find much out about Watson’s, but, like Penman’s, produced underwear. The piece is made of silky rayon jersey with shoulder straps, loose fitting, with alternating opaque white and semi-transparent horizontal striping. There is a decorative bow at the centre neckline. Label: Watson’s 5200 Made in Canada Large Sizing: Large is indicated, but please note the following measurements for fit, allowing for the style of the piece, which should be somewhat loose: Bust: 38” around, but should be a little roomy Waist: 38” around, but should be loose Bottom: 38” around Length: 31 1/2” long, measured flat from the top of the straps to the hemline Condition: It is in excellent condition with no wear, tear, pulls, stains or odors.
