Description
Alexander Pope, "Still Life with Hanging Bird: A Pair" (late 19th century). Oil on canvas, 15 x 11 in. (38.1 x 27.94 cm.). The Donald and Jean I. Stralem Collection, Bequest of Jean I. Stralem (2006.10.11). No known copyright restrictions. In both paintings (see 2006.10.10), a single bird is hung from a string on a green door. In this version the bird (perhaps a partridge?) hangs upside down suspended from a string tied to its proper right leg. The bird's feathers are brown and white, and a single feather can be found at the bottom of the canvas.
